Will Smith reveals why he didn’t want to play Django

March 25, 2013

In a recent interview with EW, Will Smith finally gave his version of why he didn’t take the part of Django in Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED. Originally Will Smith was Quentin’s first pick to play the main character, but during negotiations they couldn’t get things to work.  This is what Will Smith had to say:

“Django wasn’t the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead! I was like, ‘No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy!’”

Now in some ways you COULD argue that Christoph Waltz stole the show and Dr. Schultz was the real main character, but the movie is titled DJANGO UNCHAINED, and is ultimately about Django rescuing his wife.  I wonder what DJANGO would have been like if Smith was in it, but the above comment seems rather childish.  Either way Jamie Foxx did just fine and that movie kicked some ass.

Hey, it could have looked like this…
