“After Earth” hitting theaters earlier than expected

April 20, 2013

According to Coming Soon, Columbia Pictures has set a new release date for director M. Night Shyamalan’s sci-fi film AFTER EARTH, which stars real life father and son Will and Jaden Smith. Originally slated to open on June 7th, the post apocalyptic movie will now be released May 31st, alongside wide releases NOW YOU SEE ME and THE PURGE.

This new release date is a week after Memorial Day Weekend, which will see guaranteed box office hits FAST & FURIOUS 6 and THE HANGOVER PART III clash for the top spot. One has to wonder if moving AFTER EARTH closer to this battle is a bright idea.  I’m interested in seeing some new sci-fi movies, even though I haven’t cared for this director in years.
