Arnold Schwarzenegger in “The Toxic Avenger” Remake?

May 14, 2013

Troma is known for making crummy movies… some really fun to watch crummy movies. So how does Troma continue to get big budget remakes of their 80′s classics off the ground? First came Mother’s Day, which was directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, hot off Saw II, III and IV, now THE TOXIC AVENGER remake is in the works.

In the first shocking news out of the Cannes market, Variety reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to star in the new Toxic Avenger. While he won’t be playing horror icon “Toxie”, he’s in negotiations for another lead role in the reboot of the 1980s cult film.

International Film Trust, the sales outfit launched last week by Benaroya Pictures and Miscellaneous Entertainment, is pitching Steve Pink’s reboot of the campy 1984 action comedy in the run-up to Cannes.

Schwarzengegger is in talks with the producers to star. Hot Tub Time Machine helmer Pink and Daniel C. Mitchell penned the script while Elysium Films is attached to produce. Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein, Charlie Corwin and Michael Benaroya will produce.

Troma Entertainment’s Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman created the original 1984 movie, which initially flopped before gaining cult popularity through midnight screenings and video rentals. The Toxic Avenger went on to spawn three sequels, a musical and a cartoon.

Synopsis: “The story centers around Melvin Ferd III, a 98-pound weakling who gets transformed into a superhuman crime-fighting creature after falling into a vat of toxic waste.

Uh. Arnold Schwarzenegger in Talks to Star in ‘Toxic Avenger?
