Has “Jurassic Park IV” turned into a remake?

May 21, 2013

Sam Neill, who played Dr. Alan Grant in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 Jurassic Park, talked to the Dominion Post about Universal Pictures’ delayed sequel. His response sends chills down the spine.

I’m told it’s a big reboot, a total re-jig.

The project, which was being called Jurassic Park IV, was put on hold this month so Director Colin Trevorrow could further develop the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Behind-the-scenes rumblings were that the plot could be about the government who trained dinosaurs to carry weapons and use them for battle purposes. If this is still a sequel, hopefully they at least change the plot because that sounds silly.

Collider, who caught wind of this shocking rumor, pointed out that producer Frank Marshall told them the project is NOT a reboot.  Consider this a rumor for now because Mr. Neill probably isn’t attached to the sequel and could very well be misinformed.

Since the 3-D re-release of Jurassic Park did quite well, has the studio decided to scrap the sequel and lean towards a remake?  Let’s hope not. The original film was released in 1993.  I don’t think enough time has passed to remake the original film, especially since it still holds up amazingly well.
