Two more “Spider-Man” sequels get release dates

June 17, 2013

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is set for release on May 2nd, 2014, but Sony must be confident with what they’re seeing, because they put out a press release today to announce that they are setting dates for two additional sequels. On June 10th, 2016, they’ll release the third film in the series, and on May 4th, 2018, they’ll release the fourth.

So if you weren’t a fan of the first film and have been praying to the comic book gods for Sony to lose the rights and them revert back to Marvel, don’t hold your breath.

The sequel is starting to look like it’s jam-packed with villains. Jamie Foxx is Electro, Paul Giamatti is The Rhino, and Chris Cooper and Dane DeHann are playing Norman and Harry Osborne. Cramming this many villains into the film could lead to disaster like what happened to Spider-Man 3. Rumor is, however, that they are gearing up for a Sinister Six storyline in the sequels.

Sony doesn’t own enough superheroes to do their own “Avengers” style movie, so it looks like they’ll be going in the opposite direction. Why not do a massive team-up movie, but have it be the villains who are teaming up to take down the single hero?
