July 17, 2013

Universal Pictures acquired rights to Josh Malerman’s manuscript for BIRD BOX back in February. The studio has hired genre writer Eric Heisserer to adapt the upcoming book. His writing credits include the 2010 remake of A Nightmare On Elm St, Final Destination 5, and The Thing. He just finished writing/directing a film titled Hours, which stars Paul Walker and Génesis Rodríguez.

Mama director Andy Muschietti is on board to direct Bird Box, which will be produced by Scott Stuber, Chris Morgan and Barbara Muschietti.

Synopsis: “The story follows a woman and two children — all of them blindfolded — who make their way down a river in a seemingly post-apocalyptic setting.”
