Ryan Gosling’s Reps Deny “Star Wars VII” Casting Rumors

July 26, 2013

Quite the interesting week for Star Wars rumors. First J.J. Abrams was supposedly dropping out of Episode VII and then Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron were in talks to star.

Christopher Rosen of The Huffington Post reached out to representatives of Ryan Gosling (“Drive”), and were told that the recent rumors of the actor being involved with J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII were “not true.”

Here is what they had to say:

A new report about Ryan Gosling meeting with J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm to discuss “Star Wars: Episode VII” has been denied by the stars representatives.

According to the film site Latino Review, Gosling met with the “Star Wars” production team to discuss playing Luke Skywalker’s son in the highly anticipated sequel. “This is not true,” Gosling’s reps wrote in an email to HuffPost Entertainment.

I am more than okay with this. I’m sure Disney wants recognized names to star in the movie, but I kind of want unknown actors to play the children of Luke, Han, and Leia. Who were Hamill, Ford, and Fisher before Star Wars? Nobodies, really.

Since they are more than likely returning then that should be enough star power to excite fans to see the new trilogy. Therefore I’d like to see new faces that I haven’t seen play the children. Ryan Gosling or Zac Efron would bring a lot of pre-existing baggage to the movie.

What I want is to see is an average looking teen get the role. A true “Luke Skywalker” for this generation.
