“The Exorcist” Remade Into A New Television Series?

August 8, 2013

This year is the 40th anniversary of William Friedkin’s horror classic THE EXORCIST, which is considered by many to be the scariest movie ever made.

Deadline reports that William Peter Blatty’s best selling novel is still being considered for a new TV series.

Morgan Creek, which has the rights to the property, is shopping an “Exorcist” drama series written by young, feature-writer Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four, Fables). Both broadcast and cable networks are said to be very interested.

Roy Lee (The Departed, The Ring) is still set to executive produce.

Last year, Morgan Creek and Roy Lee shopped an Exorcist series with a different writer, Sean Durkin. Jeremy Slater isn’t working off Durkin’s script and has come up with something slightly different.

To me, The Exorcist is the grand daddy of scary movies. In 40 since its release, I don’t think a scarier movie has been made. This getting rebooted as a TV series doesn’t sound like a bright idea. Don’t try to fix what isn’t broken.
