Chadwick Boseman To Portray The Godfather Of Soul

Universal Pictures just signed Chadwick Boseman (Jackie Robinson in 42) to play James Brown. Tate Taylor (The Help) is directing the biopic.

Imagine Entertainment‘s Brian Grazer and The Rolling Stones frontman, Mick Jagger, are producing alongside Jagged Films’ Victoria Pearman and Imagine’s Erica Huggins.

The picture is based on a screenplay by Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth.

Synopsis: “The story charts a young boy’s rise from extreme poverty and violence to become The Godfather Of Soul, one of the most influential black artists in history whose career spanned six decades.”

Grazer started the project with James Brown as an active part in its development before the singer died in 2006.
