Open Road Picks Up Eli Roth’s “The Green Inferno”

September 12, 2013

Open Road has gained the U.S. distributing rights for Eli Roth’s upcoming cannibal flick THE GREEN INFERNO, reports THR.

The film, produced and financed by Worldview Entertainment, is an homage to the notorious Italian cannibal movies of the late ’70s and early ’80s such as Cannibal Holocaust. It premiered worldwide on September 7th in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival.

Synopsis: “Set deep in the heart of the Amazon, The Green Inferno follows a group of student activists who travel to visit a dying tribe. When their plane crashes, they are taken hostage by the very natives they came to observe.”

Eli Roth co-wrote the screenplay with Guillermo Amoedo.

A sequel titled BEYOND THE GREEN INFERNO is already in the works. Eli Roth won’t be in the director’s chair this time, however, and instead has tapped long-time collaborator Nicolas Lopez (Aftershock) to direct.
