Emile Hirsch Set To Star In John Belushi Biopic

October 29, 2013

Emile Hirsch has signed on to star in the John Belushi biopic, which is being written and directed by Steve Conrad. The movie is being adapted from Judith Belushi Pisano (Belushi’s widow) and Tanner Colby’s book “Belushi“.

Hirsch isn’t an obvious choice to play the actor in terms of appearance and comedy. He’s more known for his dramas, but the tale of Belushi does have equally dark and light moments. He’s gained and lost weight for roles in the past so expect him to transform into the infamous comedian.

Filming begins next spring in New York. It is the first feature depicting Belushi’s life and death since 1989’s Wired. That film starred Michael Chiklis and was based on a book by Bob Woodward. Belushi’s widow, family, and friends weren’t fans of the picture. The new movie involves Belushi’s widow and is being executive produced by Blues Brother co-star Dan Aykroyd.

John Belushi soared to fame in the original Saturday Night Live cast and films such as Animal House and The Blues Brothers before dying in 1982 at the Chateau Marmont at age 33.

Other producers include Alexandra Milchan, Bonnie Timmerman, and Film 360′s Scott Lambert.
