Fede Alvarez Not Returning To Direct “Evil Dead 2”?

October 30, 2013

Well this certainly came from out of nowhere. Fede Alvarez, director of the Evil Dead remake, has been pretty open with fans on Twitter about the status of Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness 2. Word was that Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues were busy writing the sequel, but according to the partner, they’re not even involved and haven’t been for months.

Rodo Sayagues told Gorosito TV, “Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. (Probably the Dante’s Inferno movie adaptation)

I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.

Although I hated the idea of remaking Evil Dead, it ended up not being as bad as I thought it would be. If you weren’t told it was a Evil Dead remake, it’d be a pretty fun, stand alone, horror film. I was definitely looking forward to Army of Darkness 2 more than the remake’s sequel, but the idea of a crossover in the future seemed pretty neat.

Will Evil Dead 2 happen with a different director and writer? Will it be made at all? At least we’ll have Ash back.
