Winona Ryder Returning For “Beetlejuice 2”?

November 20, 2013

In an interview with The Daily Beast, actress Winona Ryder discussed Warner Bros. upcoming sequel to BEETLEJUICE.

I’m kind of sworn to secrecy,” said Ryder. “But it sounds like it might be happening.”

Ryder acknowledged the backlash amongst fans who worry that a sequel will tamper with the legacy of the original. “It’s a very precious movie to people,” she explained. “So there are a lot people like, ‘DON’T.’

However, when Ryder heard that screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire HunterDark Shadows) had set the sequel decades after the first film, she was immediately intrigued.

It’s not a remake,” Ryder revealed. “It’s 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.

Ryder then revealed that she would have passed on the project if star Michael Keaton or director Tim Burton didn’t return as well. “I would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael,” she said. “Because those guys, I love.

Michael Keaton recently revealed that he’ll be returning as the titular character and Tim Burton will more than likely return to direct.
