“The Purge” Sequel Gets A Release Date

It appears that Universal it hoping to repeat THE PURGE’s success and will release the sequel the same month as its predecessor.

The original was the first low-budget thriller from Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions who will also produce the sequel. The first film cost only $3 million and grossed $90 million.

Director/writer James DeMonaco will also return. Shooting is expected to begin before the end of the year.

The sequel will once again center on the futuristic annual purge, a 12-hour period during which all crime is legalized.

Sebastien K. Lemercier, as well as Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, are also producing.

The Purge 2 will hit theaters on June 20th, 2014.
