December 4, 2013

I don’t know about you, but STARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK was a gem that any kid interested in scary stories would love. I still have my copy laying around here somewhere after all these years.

Deadline reports that the book is being adapted by CBS Films with screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (Saw franchise, Piranha 3DD, Pacific Rim) attached to tackle the big screen version of Alvin Schwartz’s classic collection of scary stories.

Melton and Dunstan will adapt some of the “Scary” short stories into a screenplay “about a group of outcast kids who stand up to their fears to save their town when nightmares come to life.

Schwartz collected the Scary Stories tales from folklore and urban legend. The three-book children’s series, which has sold more than 7 million copies worldwide, began with 1981′s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark and continued with More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (1984) and Scary Stories 3: More Tales To Chill Your Bones (1991).
