Paul Rudd Officially In Early Negotiations On “Ant-Man”

December 19, 2013

It appears that actor Paul Rudd (Anchorman: The Legend Continues) will indeed portray Hank Pym in Marvel‘s upcoming ANT-MAN adaptation. This will mark the first installment in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reports over the last month have narrowed the role down between Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but The Wrap and multiple sources now report that Rudd has entered “early negotiations.” This shouldn’t be a surprise since it was recently announced that Gordon-Levitt will co-produce, direct and star in an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s SANDMAN. Read more about that here.

Rudd has appeared slimmer than usual during promotion for the Anchorman sequel. According to The Wrap, it has very much to do with Ant-Man as the actor is “training for the physical role.”

As for supporting cast members, rumors state that actress Rashida Jones may play the lead female role, Janet Van Dyne.

Ant-Man will begin shooting in Atlanta, Georgia in May 2014. Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, The World’s End) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Joe Cornish. The film opens on July 31st, 2015.
