Screen Gems Remaking Gareth Evans’ “The Raid”

February 21, 20140 Comments

TheWrap reports that Screen Gems has hired director Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) to direct a remake of THE RAID in association with XYZ films. The script was written by Brad Inglesby (Out of the Furnace).

I haven’t seen 2011’s The Raid, but I’ve heard great things and the upcoming sequel looks amazing. Sadly, this is America and the general public apparently doesn’t care for foreign films. So Hollywood will remake something that is well received and likely create an inferior picture.

Casting has yet to begin, but the Hemsworth brothers (Liam, Chris and Luke) have been mentioned as possible contenders.

“A S.W.A.T. team becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs.”

The original director, Gareth Huw Evans, will co-produce. The Raid 2 will be released March 28th.

Did Hollywood not learn from the recent Oldboy remake?
