First Trailer For “The Maze Runner” Adaptation

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for The Maze Runner, based on the best-selling Young Adult novel by James Dashner.

Synopsis: “When Thomas (O’Brien) wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape.

The adaptation is directed by Wes Ball and stars Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Will Poulter and Aml Ameen.

The author has penned four entries in the “Maze Runner” series to date, with “The Scorch Trials” and “The Death Cure” serving as sequels and “The Kill Order” acting as a prequel. Knowing Hollywood, expect all of them to be adapted if the first entry is successful with the last entry being split into two films.

The Maze Runner hits theaters in the U.S. on September 19th, and October 24th in the UK.

The film looks like a mix of The Lord of the Flies, The Running Man and Cube with modern influences such as The Hunger Games and the upcoming Divergent. I didn’t know audience members liked seeing groups of teenagers fend for their lives so much. My favorite will probably always be Battle Royale. Check out the trailer below.
