“Terminator 5” Casting: Miles Dyson’s Son; Sequels Filmed Back To Back

Deadline reports that the new Terminator film will lead to a trilogy with the goal of putting the saga to rest. The second and third installments will be shot back to back over nine months. The first film will begin shooting shortly in Louisiana.

The site also reports that John Boyega (Attack the Block) did not land the role of Miles Dyson’s son in Terminator: Genesis. Instead, Paramount has cast Dayo Okeniyi (The Hunger Games, The Spectacular Now).

Doctor Miles Bennett Dyson (Joe Morton) had a key part in James Cameron’s 1991Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He was the inventor of the neural-net processor which would lead to the development of Skynet, a computer A.I. intended to control electronically linked weapons and defend the United States, but which would later seize control of the world and launch a global war of extermination against humanity.

John Connor and his Terminator intercept Sarah Connor’s attempts to assassinate him, leading to a massive shootout and the eventual death of Dyson when they blow up Skynet headquarters together. You probably remember his son playing with the RC car during the assassination attempt.

Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing from a script by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier.

Emilia Clarke is on board to play Sarah Connor and Jason Clarke will play John Connor. Jai Courtney is playing Kyle Reese. Meanwhile, J.K. Simmons plays an alcoholic detective trying to make sense of the events of 1984.

Terminator: Genesis will hit theaters on July 1st, 2015.
