Re-Casting: Johnny Knoxville & Tony Shalhoub Take Over Roles In “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”

Well, Pete Ploszek has to be pretty upset right now. The actor was hoping for his big break as Leonardo in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Despite playing the character via motion capture with the other turtle actors on set, he is now being replaced by Johnny Knoxville (Bad Grandpa) as the voice of the character.

That’s not all. Deadline reports that Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld), who played Splinter on set, is being replaced by Tony Shalhoub (Monk).

Apparently, the studio was always open to changing the voice-over artists of these characters, but whether or not the actors playing them knew that is another thing.

Not only are they recasting actors, but news recently hit that the film was going back for major reshoots equalling about one-third of the film. Hopefully these improvements work because recent reports have been mostly bad news since the trailer hit.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still scheduled to hit theaters on August 8th, 2014.
