Marvel Has The Rights To Use Kingpin In “Daredevil” Series

In an interview with IGN Movies, Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Studios) was asked about the rights to certain Marvel characters including the Kingpin who fans want to appear in the Daredevil Netflix series.

In response, Feige said that “Kingpin we either have or somehow share.” It’s a little muddy because producer Avi Arad has stressed that Kingpin was also a potential character that could be used in Sony Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. The Kingpin (aka Wilson Fisk) falls under the same shared character umbrella as Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. This is why we’ll see the Quicksilver character in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past played by two different actors.

Feige also commented on the rights of Namor and Elektra, but didn’t seem positive in his response: “No, Namor I think is a little complicated, the way some of them are.  Elektra I think we have. I think that was part of Daredevil, and that’s clean and simple.”

Disney will provide Netflix with four live action series and a miniseries featuring Marvel characters Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage set in the gritty world of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to at least four, 13-episode series over “multiple years,” beginning in 2015, culminating with a miniseries, The Defenders, that “reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.” That’s over 60 episodes!
