Robin Williams To Star In “Mrs. Doubtfire” Sequel

Fox 2000 is developing a sequel to the 1993 hit Mrs. Doubtfire that will reunite director Chris Columbus and star Robin Williams.

David Berenbaum, who wrote the Will Ferrell comedy Elf, is writing the script.

Mrs. Doubtfire starred Williams as a struggling actor and recently divorced father of three who, in order to be closer to his children, takes on the persona of a Scottish nanny named Euphegenia Doubtfire.

The film made $219M domestically and $222M internationally. Robin Williams won a Golden Globe in the Best Actor In A Musical/Comedy category while the movie won the Globe for Best Comedy/Musical.

A sequel has been in the works since 2001 when Bonnie Hunt was hired to write a script, but despite many drafts by other writers, the project has been in development hell for years, mainly because Columbus and Williams didn’t find a story they liked. The project became active again early this year with Berenbaum’s involvement.

Are you excited for Robin Williams to play one of his best roles again?
