“Gravity” Director Rumored To Helm “The Shining” Prequel

Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón may be checking in to The Overlook Hotel.

Back in July of 2013, Warner Bros. brought Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt (writer, Zodiac) onboard this project as producers. It was rumored that the film would “focus on what happened before Jack Torrance, his wife and their psychic son arrived at the haunted retreat where Torrance soon descends into violent madness.

There really hasn’t been any news until now. Rumor is that Warner Bros. has offered the gig to Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men). If this is a prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s version of The Shining, then count me in. I think Cuarón is a decent pick.

However, Cuarón is also rumored to be directing the new Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. I’m interested in both projects, but I’d like to see what he does with The Shining prequel instead.

The script has been written by former The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara who is also currently writing a sequel to The Omen titled Damien. You can read more about that here.
