Video Game “Dead Rising” Heading To The Big Screen

Legendary Pictures announced that they are producing a feature length movie based on the video game franchise, Dead Rising. Tim Carter will write the screenplay and co-produce alongside Tomas Harlan with their Contradiction Films company which produced Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

Crackle will distribute the film, while Content Media handles the international rights. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers franchise) will executive produce.

Dead Rising is described as being set during a zombie outbreak, as four characters outrun the disease’s spread and search for its origins. “We are excited to be working with Legendary and Lorenzo, who have both created immersive properties for fans around the world,” Carter and Harlan said in a statement. “As avid players of the game, we’re extremely thrilled to take the popular franchise that millions have embraced and give them the opportunity to experience it on a new platform.”

I think certain video games don’t need movie counterparts. Sometimes it’s better to play and be in control, rather than watch a condensed version of something you enjoy. Would you rather mow down a bunch of zombies, or watch somebody else do it? Usually video game adaptations don’t turn out so well, but there’s always hope. Will this offer something unique to the genre, or end up being just another zombie film with a recognizable title? What do you guys think?
